One of the many pillars with poems from the Profeta Gentileza in Rio de Janeiro, near Rodoviaria.
Profeta Gentileza spread good messages, poems and protests against the capitalism and money power through pillars in Rio.

That´s really an example of how the streets can mediate messages, the importance of Urban spaces.

General Osório Square - Ipanema.
A nice afternoon with many different kinds of urban interventions. Poetry recitation, music, circus artists, dj´s, painters and others.
Street arts and expressions had always existed but nowadays the fetichism over its thematic brought a new form and visibility for this free media (and when everybody can produce and receive messages).

Municipal Theatre of Rio de Janeiro

This is the front of the Rio de Janeiro´s Municipal Theatre. Located at Cinelândia Square, Downtown, the most cultural area of Rio. The building is one of the most important Theatres of South America where the most famous names of opera, ballet and classical music have performed. It was founded in 1909 and it is now being renovated.
The exterior facade has been renovated in order to emphasize its sense of verticality by the two big collums and the decoration back us to Baroque period.
Perfect, classical, historical and in the middle of a big city routine.

Beco do Rato - Central of Rio

This was a samba party at Beco do Rato in the central part of Rio. People, music and architecture get together in a nice atmosphere of culture. The buildings are old and people try to preserv them.

Lapa at Carnival

The Arcos are located in Lapa, Central area of Rio de Janeiro and it was built in the colonial period of Brazil. Nowadays it means a postcard of the city, being a symbol of the Old Rio by its preservation and also a symbol of the samba history and popular Rio culture.
The night of Lapa is one of the most famous and crowded in Rio, getting together not only samba but many different cultures like punk, hip-hop and latin sounds.
This picture was taken at Carnival 2009 during a street party and shows all that the place can offer: culture, history, tradition and modernity, grey and green.
That´s really a Rio urban landscape.

Warnings

A chair at a Rio subway station destinated to the old, pregnant and people with special needs. I would really appreciate if this could work well, sometimes people pretend they see this signs and sit there anyway.
So, the city is the territory of signs and simple everyday messages like this can become a sign that represents the space it belongs.

Graffiti art

I found this on the corner of my street some weeks ago. (Madureira Hood, Rio de Janeiro). It just gave colour and life to the grey view of a big city.
The urban space is the contemporary media to express fellings, opinions and artistic manifestations.
