Beco do Rato - Central of Rio

This was a samba party at Beco do Rato in the central part of Rio. People, music and architecture get together in a nice atmosphere of culture. The buildings are old and people try to preserv them.

Lapa at Carnival

The Arcos are located in Lapa, Central area of Rio de Janeiro and it was built in the colonial period of Brazil. Nowadays it means a postcard of the city, being a symbol of the Old Rio by its preservation and also a symbol of the samba history and popular Rio culture.
The night of Lapa is one of the most famous and crowded in Rio, getting together not only samba but many different cultures like punk, hip-hop and latin sounds.
This picture was taken at Carnival 2009 during a street party and shows all that the place can offer: culture, history, tradition and modernity, grey and green.
That´s really a Rio urban landscape.

Warnings

A chair at a Rio subway station destinated to the old, pregnant and people with special needs. I would really appreciate if this could work well, sometimes people pretend they see this signs and sit there anyway.
So, the city is the territory of signs and simple everyday messages like this can become a sign that represents the space it belongs.

Graffiti art

I found this on the corner of my street some weeks ago. (Madureira Hood, Rio de Janeiro). It just gave colour and life to the grey view of a big city.
The urban space is the contemporary media to express fellings, opinions and artistic manifestations.
